Elite Athlete Support

Athletes who will enhance the competitiveness of the TUMMiler, TUM102 and TUM50 races, and the international profile of the event are invited to apply for travel assistance. The assistance offered is in three tiers.

Tier 1

Selection Criteria

  • Winners of the previous or recent editions of the Tarawera Ultramarathon by UTMB or
  • Current champions of major international ultra trail races – e.g. UTMB Mont Blanc, Western States Endurance Run, UTMB World Series Events, or
  • UTMB Index Rating > 900 (men) or > 750 (women)

Support Provided

  • Travel assistance. Payable 30 days after competing in the event
  • Up to 5 nights race week accommodation
  • Guaranteed and free race entry

Selection Criteria

  • Winners or podium finishers of the previous or recent editions of the Tarawera Ultramarathon by UTMB or
  • Winners or podium finishers of major international ultra-trail races or
  • Winners of major endurance events - such as IRONMAN or Coast to Coast
  • UTMB Index rating of  >800 (men)  >700 (women)

Support Provided

  • Travel grant/accommodation assistance. Payable 30 days after competing in the event
  • Guaranteed and free race entry

  • UTMB Index rating >750 (men) or >650 (women)

Elite Athlete Obligations

  • Make yourself available for any/all media requests – all TV/radio interviews, news release videos during race week (Thursday 15th February 2024 until Sunday 18th February 2024) etc
  • Be available to take part in at least 2 race week activities such as the Race Director’s BBQ, Powhiri Welcome, Elite Athlete Q&A, prizegiving etc. A race week schedule will be released in January in which Elite’s will be allocated to different activities (Thursday 15th February 2024 until Sunday 18th February 2024).
  • Post on your own social media channels that you have signed up and are training for the event. Minimum of two posts must be completed before the end of December in the year preceding the race. We can provide you with photos and videos to accompany your social media posts.
  • Minimum of two social posts made during race week in Rotorua (Thursday 15th February 2024 until Sunday 18th February 2024)
