Spectators
Support crews are most welcome at the Tarawera Ultramarathon!
We love support crews – especially those that dress up and cheer loudly! The more people and the more enthusiastic you are – the better the atmosphere for the athletes.
Support Crew Info
To keep the event manageable as well as fair and safe for all athletes, and to make sure support crews do not get lost, there is some information that support crews need to know.
- Not all aid stations are accessible by private vehicle. Supporters will need to purchase a transport ticket if they wish to visit Outlet and Okataina Aid Stations.
- There will be hundreds of support crew vehicles driving and parking on narrow roads.
- Please keep your speed down and be careful entering and exiting all parking areas.
- Mobile coverage on the course is patchy. Please Google search your phone provider’s coverage map, e.g. search for “Vodafone coverage map” to get a better idea of where you might have mobile phone coverage.
- There is absolutely no need to speed to see your athlete at the next Aid Station. You have plenty of time.
- If you are an overseas visitor, please ensure you have an approved international drivers license and you familiarise yourself with these New Zealand driving resources.
A few things to be aware of: - We drive on the left side of the road
- It’s easy to underestimate travelling times here
- Our roads are narrower, more winding and sometimes steeper than you might expect
- Our roads are mostly two-way, with one lane in each direction - we have few motorways.
