Spectators

Support crews are most welcome at the Tarawera Ultramarathon. We love support crews – especially those that dress up and cheer loudly!

To keep the event manageable as well as fair and safe for all athletes, and to make sure support crews do not get lost, we provide spectator transport options to the following Aid Station locations that you cannot reach by private vehicle.

Please see full guidelines for Spectators here

Spectator Transport

OUTLET AID STATION (TARAWERA FOREST)

The only way to access this location on the TUMMiler and TUM102 courses, and the entire Tarawera Forest, is via our Spectator shuttle bus. This is for safety reasons and to respect the private landowners and the forest managers in these areas.

Spectator Shuttle Bus transport to Outlet Aid Station (return)

Cost: $23.50

Pick up location: Firmin Field, Kawerau

Pick up time: First departure is 7:15am, then every hour on the hour from 9:00am Saturday until 1:00am Sunday.

Please note: Bus travel time is 45mins (one-way). The final bus will depart Outlet Aid Station at 2:30am Sunday to return to Firmin Field.

The forest fire risk in Tarawera Forest is high and the forest managers may shut the forest to all spectator buses with little or no notice. In this instance, the bus ticket will be refunded to you. You and your runner must prepare for the possibility of no crew at the Outlet Aid Station. We recommend athletes stock their drop bag with extra things that your crew may have had – i.e. change of socks, lube, shoes etc.

OKATAINA AID STATION

The road to Okataina Aid Station will be closed to private vehicles for the duration of the event from 8:00am Saturday to 7:00am on Sunday, so the only way for supporters to access this location on the 100 Miler and 102km courses is via our Spectator shuttle bus.
